50km Walk for
-
Updated Help David Williams raise money for the
Dalit Children of India
Due to work commitments David was not able to walk for GFA on Saturday the 1st of August 2009 with the rest of the GFA supporters. However David
did attempt the walk on his own on Monday the 5th of October 2009. After a late start
and quite a bit of council work both on the road and in the parks he walked 35kms
before being forced to retire early due to the dark. David raised $750 in total - a
great effort from both David and all that donated to the worthwhile cause.
The 50km walk starts from Teralba Park,
Mitchelton and heads north into Scarborough, finishing at Owens Park. It costs $55 to register
as a walker. A registration fee is charged to cover all the costs of the event so that 100% of
the funds raised in sponsorship and donations go directly to the Dalit children of
India.
If anyone does register for the walk, a team has
been set up called "Fernvale Community Church". This is what they should register under if
participating.
If you need any more information please
visit www.walk4charity.com or contact me on 5427 0315.

course will be run periodically throughout the coming years.
The Leadership Team and Money Coaches are excited about launching CAP Money as a

Meet and hear from Bhimrao & Kanta Thavare from Fiji
Make the most of an opportunity to meet them and hear their story and the latest
news from Fiji. They will be in Australia from 31 Aug to 21 Sept.
Bhimrao Thavare comes from a strong Hindu background. He came to faith in Christ
in 1976 during his high school years while studying at Baramati Boys’ Home run by Churches of
Christ in India. He sensed God’s strong call to fulltime training and ministry and he served 10
years as a church planter and pastor. He was the Secretary for Churches of Christ in India for six
years and was involved with a variety of Christian organizations before becoming a professor at
Union Biblical Seminary in Pune, India.
Since 2001, Bhimrao, Kanta and family have served in Fiji in the ministry of
church planting, training national Fijian Indians for the ministry, and coordinating the Bible
Training Institute (BTI). BTI provides correspondence courses that assist 160 students from various
backgrounds and religious beliefs all over Fiji with studies on the fundamentals of Christian
Faith. BTI also enables short term theological training for church planters and includes seminars
on Mission and Evangelism and Church Leadership to equip congregational members. Bhimrao has found
that there are open doors for Gospel outreach and evangelism through the local radio ministry.
Bhimrao currently provides team leadership as the Fiji Field Director and also
serves on the Executive of the Fiji Council of Churches. Kanta, his wife, is very supportive and
has served with him in every aspect of his ministry for more than 25 years and each of their
children is actively involved in Christian outreach and ministry. Bhimrao and Kanta are committed
to church planting and training more indigenous Fiji Indians for the effective Gospel outreach in
Fiji.

2009 Sunday9.30 am Church
Service
Wendy, Darcie and Dean
Dean Taylorwill be our guest speaker on Sunday 21 June at 9.30am at
Fernvale.
It’s next week!
Dean grew up in Newcastle, NSW, surfing and playing on many sports teams. Upon
finishing a science degree, Dean worked in the Cardiology Unit of John Hunter Hospital,
Newcastle and then did a diploma in teaching. It was around this time he experienced God’s
call to ministryand while teaching at
a Christian high school he had a transforming experience of the Holy Spirit, which
consequently altered the direction of his life.
Dean and his wife, Wendy, moved to Brisbane in
1995 where Dean graduated from theBaptist
TheologicalCollegewith a Diploma
in Ministry. They were then led toKenneth
Hagin Ministries on the Gold Coast in
1997, where he completed studies before entering into itinerant ministry in 1999.
During this season, Dean was given a full-time instructors position at Rhema Bible
Training Centre until moving into a teaching/pastoral position at Destiny Church in 2003,
which he continues in today.
While continuing in his role at his home church, Dean has
been led by the Lord to also serve the wider Body of Christ. Operating in prophetic teaching,
his mandate and passion is to see Christians being built up in strong faith and operating in
greater demonstrations of the Kingdom.
Monthly Combined Night
Service Starts Sunday 24th May
Spirit Fire Service
A combined service with Lowood Christian Church
in Railway St, Lowood at 6.00 pm. Speaker" Vassie Pillay
(see biography below).
Spirit Fire's purpose is to encourage all to live an abundant,
Spirit-filled life. It is open to all and it is hoped that Christians from all backgrounds and
denominations will join together at this once-per-month service.
It will usually be on the 3rd Sunday of each month.
VassiePillay is an intercessor, and an Apostolic, prophetic servant of
God. He has an evangelistic ministry and travels from his home in Johannesburg, South Africa to
Australia where he has ministered in Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and other locations. He has been
going to the United States since 2000. He has spent six months (ave.) each year in the United
States since that time. As an intercessor, Vassie had prayed for the United States for a period of
five years when the Lord impressed upon him that he should go to the U.S. Initially the Lord
directed him to come to the Branson, MO area to speak and has been going each year since. He has
ministered in several area towns. Bro. Vassie initiated and was instrumental in bringing together
various pastors and churches which resulted in the Unity Meeting held on the Missouri State Fair
Grounds on Good Friday, March 25, 2005. This was a very successful meeting, with over 900 in
attendance.
Brother Vassie has a powerful testimony of how he was gloriously
saved when he was 18 yrs. He was brought out of darkness into the glorious light of Jesus and was
anointed instantly and began to preach. He has been preaching over 40 yrs. Bro. Vassie comes to us
strictly by faith, and he is not supported by any church or organization.
It is his primary goal to unite the pastors of the various independent churches to pray
together and support each other in unity to further the cause of Christ and to teach others how
to pray and intercede for the needs of the saints, the needs of our cities, our churches, our
schools, our government and our leaders. It is his prayer that the Christians of this great
nation will once again turn back to their "first love" with Jesus Christ - that they would
humble themselves and pray, confess their sins, so that they may once again hear from heaven,
and for God to hear and heal our land.

Dear Churches of Christ in
Queensland Friends
As we all know, in recent days the ferocity of our country
has again been evident. With floods up north, and fires down
south, CofC churches and the community at large have been hugely impacted, especially with the
fires.
In Geoff Risson’s weekly ‘E-net newsletter’, which you will receive
Thursday, Geoff will talk about what we can do for those impacted by the floods, especially through
our Aboriginal & Islander Church at Normanton.
However we write to you today specifically about the fires. Here in the
Qld Conference state office we have been keeping in close contact with our sister Conference in
Victoria following the devastating bushfires over the weekend. Not only has the impact been huge on
Victorian families and churches, but people are also turning to our local churches for spiritual,
financial and practical support during these difficult times.
Please read the email below from Paul Cameron (Vic/Tas
Executive Officer) & Craig Brown (National CofC Co-ordinator) . Two things we would specifically ask:
Pray. Use the
information about churches affected below in your prayers, and for Churches partaking in the
upcoming ‘Prayer Vigil’ set aside some time for prayer for those impacted by bushfire and
flood.
Give.
Paul & Craig discuss below a CareWorks (the name of the social service department of CofC in
Vic/Tas) appeal. Attached you will find a tax deductible donation form.
Please can you circulate this information as widely as possible among your
networks. Churches, please also consider making a special announcement about this during this
week’s services.
For more information, you can contact myself (Steve) or Andrea here at the
Qld state office on 3327 1661.
With thanks,

The Victorian Bushfires: CareWorks 2009 Bushfire
Appeal
In one way or another all of us have been greatly affected by the devastating
bushfires in Victoria over the weekend of February 7-8. For some of
our churches this has been very personal. It has meant the loss of property, in some cases
housing, and in one case the loss of life of a leader. For some, it has been the loss of
loved ones or friends, or knowing others who are experiencing tragic grief because of death
or property loss. For others all this has been real but surreal, from a distance, as we have
observed disturbing footage and images via the media. For yet others, it has re-connected
them with an earlier grief, sometimes caused by fires, or by other disasters. This impact
will go on, in different ways, for a long time. These are indeed tough times. We all want to
do something, to make a difference, to offer help and hope to those whose lives have been so
suddenly and indiscriminately changed.
I’m sure most of our churches have already been praying for people right around
the state who have been impacted by the fires. I know that you will continue to do so. With
regards to Churches of Christ, at the time of writing, we are aware of the fire’s impact on
members of the following churches. Please join us in praying for them, their ministers and
for their communities.
oHorsham(senior minister Simon Risson). Property losses, including sheds
etc.
oLatrobe Regional/Morwell (no minister currently). Property and housing
losses.
oWarragul(ministers Tracey and David Ware). Property losses.
oWallan Gateway(a joint CofC/Baptist church plant, minister: Andrew Adams). Property and
housing losses. One death.
oBendigo(minister Andrew Colquhoun). Some temporary evacuations, but no
losses.
oUpper Yarra(Yarra Junction, minister Malcolm Clark). Fire surrounded the area, precautions
were taken, all are OK.
oFoothills(Ferntree Gully, minister Steve Barrington). Some temporary
evacuations.
oNillumbik(Eltham, minister David Buesnel). Members in the affected areas, but no reports
of impact.
oWe have yet to hear back fromChurchillCo-operating Churches (minister: Bob Brown) andRiverValleychurch (minister: Andy Bennett, although we know their community support office
has been inundated).
In partnership with the Council of Churches of Christ
in Australia (CCCA), and as an immediate, emergency response, the
Vic/Tas Conference has today put in place the following actions:
(a)We will make an immediate donation of $10
000from the CCCA National Disaster Fund (NDF) to the current Salvation Army
Bushfire Appeal,
(b)We will releasea further amount of up to $10 000from the NDF to enable local churches impacted by the fires to make small
grants/gifts to those in need in their community,
(c)We will invite churches and members nationwide to support the Churches of
Christ CareWorks 2009 Bushfire Appeal. All donations to this appeal will be distributed to the current Salvation Army
or Red Cross Bushfire Appeals in Victoria or to enable localchurches impacted by the fires to make small grants/gifts to those in need in
their community.
We believe it is realistic to have a target of $100 000 for this Appeal.
Donations over $2 will be tax deductible, when made on the attached form, by cheques made out
to Churches of Christ in Vic/Tas Community Care, or by credit card.
(d)We will invite churches in Victoria to make pastoral
skilled people resources availablefor support of people in the areas affected by the fires through the Victorian
Council of Churches Disaster Plan. Support is already being given to people through the VCC
Emergencies Ministry. Please notify the VCC office on (03) 9650 4511 regarding your church’s
response capacity.
(e)We will seek the support of churches nationwide to replenish the
NDFas early as possible.
Prayer Gathering For Melbourne metropolitan churches,
OneCommunityChurch ( 184
Surrey RdBlackburn) is holding a special time of prayer in response
to the devastation resulting from the bushfires on Tuesday 10 February commencing at 7pm.
One’s Ministry Team is concerned for those who have lost everything and
especially those associated with One and other church communities who are grieving the loss
of family members and friends. All are welcome to join in this time of prayer, to seek the
presence and power of God, and to ask Him to meet with those who struggle with the outcomes
of this horrific event.
We will continue to bring you updates as the situation becomes clearer, and as
the need for community healing and rebuilding continues.

Posted:25 Jan 2009 Did you know there is a Fernvale Community Churchin Tennessee
USA?
Fernvale Community Church in Tennessee has been in contact with
Pastor Greg and is seeking to establish a relationship with FCC here.
There are some real similarities between the two churches. They have provided
some information about themselves – see below.
If you would like to correspond by email with someone there, you can send a
short profile of yourself to Greg and he could forward it on to FCC - USA and ask if there was
someone there who would like to correspond. Also, we will post prayer points for them from time to
time and they will pray for us.
Fernvale is a small
semi-rural residential area located about 37 km west of Nashville, Tennessee. It is a mixture of
suburbs and hobby farms. Some people raise cattle and horses are very
popular.
Our church started out in the mid 1800s as a Methodist
Church. Since the early 1990s, we have become a community-based non-denominational fellowship. Our
church moved to the current site and built the building in 1885. Our church was totally destroyed
last February by a tornado. We are currently working on the plans for our new building, which
should be completed by year’s end.
Our average Sunday attendance is around 50, including
children. Our members are current and retired business owners, teachers, salesmen and women,
housewives, financial planners, govt workers and other related fields of employment. We are a
diverse group that love our little church!
Sunday School meets at
10am and the service is at 11am. We have a Bible study class on Wednesday nights. During the year
we have fellowships, Vacation Bible School and a mission service. We have monthly men’s mission
breakfasts that help needy people in the community. We also contribute to local programs that help
the hungry, homeless and women/families recovering from substance and domestic abuse. We also
contribute to international organisations such as Hands in Service (Uganda) and Samaritan’s
Purse.
